When I think of common prayers the first one I think of is the "Serenity Prayer".
I think people pray for all different reasons but they pray becaus they have faith in God. Most people I know would say prayer is like a personal conversation with God.
Prayer gives hope. Often when there seems to be no hope or no one to talk to people reach out to a higher power.
I think there are many reasons why people pray. Sometimes people want to ask God for something or thank him for something. Other times, people just want to have someone they trust and have faith in to talk to.
